1746km and I am ready for the second oil change.
I had the first oil change at 793km (67th day). According to the operating manual, it should be done after 500km.
The second and every other oil change is then due after another 1200km each. So I am back on schedule with the second oil change.
Today, anyway, is a nice day for an oil change.
First, I inspect the car from below. There is still a big oil loss at the transmission shaft. I will have to mount a pan here to catch the oil.
This is how the gearbox looks cleaned.
Oil also leaks between the oil pan and the transmission cover. This area can be sealed with a better sealant.
First, I unscrew the oil drain plug and let the oil run out of the engine. There were no metal parts in the oil.
The 3 drain plugs on the oil pan cover are more interesting. These are not original, but retrofitted by Werner. They are not so much for draining oil, but for collecting metal particles and oil sludge. During the first oil change I found a lot of particles here. Today I found only a piece of a safety cotter pin and a textile lint. There was also hardly any oil sludge in the 3 lock nuts.
But there was something else interesting to observe in the additional processes. You can see it in the following video. First, water comes out of the openings. So these devices are not only good for collecting metal particles, but also for separating water in the oil. Very nice.
I then resealed the oil drain holes, using Teflon tape for a better seal, and topped off the oil.
So at the second oil change today I found much less sludge and particles than at the first oil change after the engine overhaul. But I should still take off the inspection cover and see if can find out where the piece of the locking cotter pin comes from.
