10:30 Uhr: Ich fahre gleich los nach Nideggen zur „Eifelrundfahrt 1922“. Zuerst prüfe ich nochmal den Benzinhahn. Er scheint noch auf einer Seite leicht mit Benzin benetzt. Es ist aber weniger als früher.
10:30 a.m.: I leave immediately for Nideggen for the "Eifelrundfahrt 1922". First I check the fuel tap again. It seems to be still slightly wetted with gasoline on one side. But it is less than before.
11:15 The car is filled up, ready to go.
12:30 After 40km of driving, the car briefly loses power. I pull over to the side of the road, but since it's an awkward spot, I continue half a minute later. The car shows no more abnormalities.
13:00 I have driven 48 km. Behind a tractor I have to slow down and the car stops. When I try to start the engine again, I notice that the engine turns very hard. Should the belts be too tight?
13:15 I open the transmission cover and check the belts. The brake drum has two grooves that I hadn't noticed before. Can't see anything else noticeable and loosen all three belts. The engine still turns hard. I heard a clacking noise in between while driving. It was not loud and has disappeared again. Should a connecting rod bearing or main bearing have seized?
Now also has the iPad too warm :-(
14:00 The engine has cooled down in the meantime. The engine is still turning hard. I am sure that a connecting rod bearing or a main bearing has seized. So the event "Eifelrundfahrt 1922" is finished for me. We cancelled the hotel rooms and I wait for Markus who is on his way to me with the trailer. Maybe I should have checked the bearings as I had planned.
14:30 An off-road vehicle stops and the driver Daniel offers help. I gladly accept and we tow the Model-T to the next parking lot. During the last meters on the parking lot, I try to start the engine while towing it. It turns and runs under its own power. But since I'm standing too close behind the off-road vehicle, I turn the engine off again.
14:45 The car is in the parking lot. I try to crank it up again and am very surprised to find that the engine turns easily again. The engine starts immediately as if nothing had happened. ????
15:30 Markus has arrived with the trailer. After a long discussion we decide to go to Nideggen after all. I do not want to give up. Of course the engine can make problems again at any time, but we have the trailer with us. On this we load the Model-T now, so that we arrive at least halfway on time for dinner.
