Heute soll das Lüfterlager final repariert werden. Dazu habe ich 3 Ersatzteile gekauft:
- Lüfterschaft
- Schmiernippel aus Messing
- ein Kugellagereinsatz für die Lüfternabe
Leider gab es ein wichtiges Ersatzteil nicht zu kaufen: Eine Messinglagerbuchse für die Lüfternabe des Baujahres 1916 oder die Lüfternabe mit einer passenden Lagerbuchse. Eine neue Nabe gibt es nur mit Kugellager oder einen Kugellagereinsatz zum Einkleben. Das ist sehr schade, da ich eigentlich nicht beabsichtigt hatte den Wagen technisch zu modernisieren. Aber bevor ich ohne eine Möglichkeit den Lüfter zu reparieren vor der Werkbank stehe, habe ich den Kugellagereinsatz gekauft.
Today the fan bearing is to be finally repaired. Therefore I bought 3 spare parts:
- Fan shaft
- Fun grease cup brass
- Fun hub insert with ball bearing
Unfortunately there was an important spare part not to buy: A brass bearing bush for the fan hub of the model year 1916 or the fan hub with a suitable bearing bush. A new hub is only available with a ball bearing or a ball bearing insert to be glued in. This is a pity, because I did not intend to modernize the car technically. But before I stand in front of the workbench without a possibility to repair the fan, I bought the ball bearing insert.

The new fan shaft differs from the old one by the intact thread and hopefully larger diameter without wear.
The new grease nipple has a nice detail: an O-ring for sealing.
This is the ball bearing insert for gluing in. I have not unpacked it because I first want to try if it works without it.
First I check the play of the old fan shaft.
The new stock has less than half the play. It might be worth a try to assemble the fan without the ball bearing insert.
Up to now I always had the problem that the fan shaft was not sufficiently fixed. The shaft was always screwed into the clamping lever and the fan hub was clamped. Therefore my tension lever probably has a small locking screw, but it did not work very well. My guess was that the grease nipple should actually counter the shaft. Unfortunately the thread was so broken that I even lost the grease nipple while driving. When mounting the new shaft and new grease nipple I see that the grease nipple actually counters the fan shaft.
After mounting all parts, the bearing must be greased. I fill the grease nipple and its cap with grease and screw the cap onto the grease nipple until it stops.
The grease is not yet coming out of the bearing. But probably the axial bore of the fan shaft is already filled with grease. The grease reaches the plain bearing through this bore. The grease in the cover is completely pressed into the grease nipple.
I fill the lid with grease again and screw it onto the grease nipple. After only a few threads the grease comes out of the bearing.
The fan now rotates without the slightest play in the fan bearing. This is how it could work. The fan is ready for mounting.
