337. Tag - Ölstand im Differential / Oil level in differential

Da fast kein Öl mehr aus dem von außen abgedichteten Kardan tropft, läuft es vermutlich durch das Kardanrohr in das Differential. Beim letzten Check vor einem Monat, war auch tatsächlich zu viel Öl im Differential und ist beim Öffnen der Schraube herausgelaufen. Da man das Differential nur bis zur unteren Kante der Einfüllöffnung befüllen kann, muss das herausgelaufene Öl vom Getriebe gekommen sein.
Since almost no oil is dripping out of the externally sealed cardan, it probably runs through the cardan tube into the differential. At the last check a month ago, there was actually too much oil in the differential and it ran out when the screw was opened. Since you can only fill the differential to the bottom edge of the filler hole, the oil that leaked out must have come from the transmission.

Mal sehen wieviel neues Öl nach einem Monat in das Differential gelaufen ist.

336. Tag - Bänder einstellen / Adjust Transmission Bands

Die Bänder habe ich nach dem sie neu eingebaut waren nach 400km zum ersten mal und nach 360km zum zweiten mal eingestellt. Seit dem bin ich jetzt weitere 1780km gefahren. Noch ist es nicht unbedingt notwendig die Bänder nachzustellen, da ich aber am 10. Juli zur "Eifelrundfahrt 1922" fahren möchte mache ich das jetzt mal.
Zuerst prüfe ich, ob die Serviceklappe noch dicht ist. Ja sie ist dicht.
The tapes I have adjusted after they were newly installed after 400km for the first time and after 360km for the second time. Since then I have now driven another 1780km. It is not yet absolutely necessary to adjust the belts, but since I want to drive on July 10 to the "Eifelrundfahrt 1922" I do that now.
First I check if the service cover is still tight. Yes, it is tight.

Jetzt schaue ich mal, ob sich der Deckel mit dem Flächendichtmasse auf der Papierdichtung und dem Klebstoff von Sikaflex außen an dem Deckel gut abnehmen läßt. Mit einem Schraubenzieher lässt sich der Deckel gut abheben.
Now I'll see if the lid can be removed easily with the surface sealant on the paper gasket and the adhesive from Sikaflex on the outside of the transmission door. The lid can be lifted off well with a screwdriver.

Das grüne Dichtmittel des Herstellers Uhu klebt sehr fest an der Dichtung und dem Metall. So sehr, dass die Papierdichtung in der Mitte auseinander reißt und sowohl am Deckel, als auch am Getriebegehäuse klebt.
The green sealant from the manufacturer Uhu sticks very firmly to the seal and the metal. So much so that the paper seal tears apart in the middle and sticks to both the transmission door and the gearbox housing.

Es gibt aber eine Stelle, an der Öl unter die Dichtung gelangt ist. Das grüne Dichtmittel klebt also gut, ist aber zu flüssig um größere Spalte auszufüllen. 
However, there is one spot where oil has gotten under the seal. So the green sealant sticks well, but is too liquid to fill larger gaps.

Es ist sehr schwierig, die Klebereste und die Dichtung vom Metall zu entfernen. Zuerst versuche ich es mit einem Teppichmesser, dabei bricht aber zweimal die Klinge ab. Um die Reste am Gehäuse zu entfernen, lege ich ein Tuch in das Getriebe um zu verhindern, dass die Partikel in das Getriebe fallen.
It is very difficult to remove the adhesive residue and the seal from the metal. First I try it with a carpet knife, but the blade breaks off twice. To remove the remains on the housing, I put a cloth in the gearbox to prevent the particles from falling into the gearbox.

Da das Messer keine gute Wahl ist, probiere ich noch andere Werkzeuge und finde tatsächlich eines das sehr gut funktioniert.
Since the knife is not a good choice, I try some other tools and actually find one that works very well.

In dem Video sieht man, wieviel Spiel die drei Bänder haben. Ich betätige zuerst das linke Pedal, welches den ersten und zweiten Gang schaltet, dann das mittlere Pedal für den Rückwärtsgang und zuletzt das rechte Pedal für die Bremse. Die Bänder haben ein Spiel von 5-9mm.
In the video you can see how much play the three bands have. I first press the left pedal, which shifts first and second gear, then the middle pedal for reverse, and finally the right pedal for the brake. The bands have a play of 5-9mm.

Das linke Pedal, kann außen am Getriebe nachgestellt werden. Ich spanne das Pedal drei halbe Umdrehungen nach.
The left pedal, can be adjusted on the outside of the transmission. I retighten the pedal three half turns.

Die beiden anderen Bänder werden an den Muttern innen nachgestellt, wobei das obere Band nur mit einem Ringschlüssel eingestellt werden kann. Der Gabelschlüssel stößt am Gehäuserand an.
The other two bands are readjusted at the nuts on the inside, whereby the upper band can only be adjusted with a box wrench. The open-end wrench abuts against the edge of the housing.

Bevor ich den Deckel wieder abdichte, montiere ich ihn ohne Dichtung und mache eine kurze Probefahrt. Die Pedale lassen sich gut bedienen. Vielleicht ist das linke Pedal etwas zu eng eingestellt. Im Leerlauf merkt man, wie das Band an der Getriebetrommel schleift. Der Motor läuft im Leerlauf etwas langsamer, als zuvor. Da ich dieses Pedal aber ja auch von außen einstellen kann, dichte ich den Deckel jetzt ab.
Before I seal the transmission door again, I mount it without the seal and take a short test drive. The pedals are easy to operate. Perhaps the left pedal is set a little too tight. At idle, you can notice the belt rubbing against the transmission drum. The engine runs a little slower at idle than before. But since I can adjust this pedal from the outside, I'm sealing the transmission door now.

Zum Abdichten nehme ich dieses mal das Hochtemperatur Silikon von Petec. Die Flasche des Silikons ist super. Man braucht keine Kartuschenpresse. Die Flasche hat eine eingebaute Pumpe und lässt sich sehr einfach bedienen und gut dosieren.
I take this time the high temperature silicone from Petec for sealing. The bottle of silicone is great. You do not need a cartridge press. The bottle has a built-in pump and is very easy to use and good dosage.

Zur besseren Abdichtung bestreiche ich beide Seiten und montiere den Deckel ohne die originale Papierdichtung. Ich bin gespannt, ob das funktioniert. Beim Verschrauben des Deckels drückt sich etwas Silikon heraus. Dieses Silikon streiche ich nochmal von außen über die Kante des Deckels.
For a better seal, I'll coat both sides and install the lid without the original paper gasket. I am curious to see if this works. When screwing the lid, some silicone squeezes out. I spread this silicone again from the outside over the edge of the transmission door.

335. Tag - Verdeckreparatur / Top Repair

Das Loch im Dach ist zwar schon von innen mit einem Klebeband repariert, es sieht aber von außen nicht so schön aus. Ich möchte jetzt versuchen ob ich die Optik mit schwarzem Silikon noch verbessern kann.Ich reinige das Dach etwas und fülle den Riss mit dem Klebstoff aus.  
The hole in the roof is already repaired from the inside with a tape, but it does not look so nice from the outside. I would now like to try if I can improve the appearance with black silicone. I clean the roof a little and fill the crack with the adhesive.  

Jetzt sieht es etwas besser aus. Ich hoffe, dass es auch hält. 
Now it looks a little better. I hope that it also holds.

334. Tag - Zweitwagen / Second Car

Ich habe ein schönes Auto gefunden, der wunderbar als Zweitwagen zum Model T passen würde. Ich habe schon eine Probefahrt damit gemacht. Alles funktioniert wunderbar. Nur mit der Lenkung scheint etwas nicht zu stimmen, der Wagen fährt nur Linkskurven. Der Verkäufer sagte mir, dass das aber schon von Anfang an so gewesen sei.

I have found a nice car that would fit wonderfully as a second car to the Model T. I have already test driven it. Everything works great. Only with the steering something seems to be wrong, the car drives only left turns. The seller told me that this has been the case from the beginning.

333. Tag - Lieferung nach Altenkessel / Delivery to Altenkessel

Vier Lautsprecherboxen und ein Mischpult mussten heute nach Altenkessel. Ein Stadtteil von Saarbrücken, der vor allem dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, dass er an einem sehr steilen Berg liegt. Ich dachte schon, dass ich dort nur im ersten Gang hochkomme, zumal ich ja noch das Gepäck dabei habe. Aber mit viel Anlauf bin ich tatsächlich den Berg im schnellen Gang hochgefahren. 

Mit 33km/h war ich sogar 10% schneller als auf der Straße erlaubt ist. 

Four loudspeaker boxes and a mixing console had to go to Altenkessel today. A district of Saarbrücken, which is mainly characterized by the fact that it is located on a very steep hill. I thought that I would only be able to get up there in first gear, especially since I still had the luggage with me. But with a lot of run-up I actually went up the mountain in fast gear. 

With 33km / h I was even 10% faster than is allowed on the road. 

332. Tag - Wasserstand / Water Level

Man gewöhnt sich daran, dass das Auto schon lange keinen Defekt mehr hatte. Ich habe schon lange nicht mehr den Kühlwasserstand kontrolliert. Auch fahre ich schon lange mit dem einfachen Kühlerverschluss, statt mit dem Motormeter. Naja der Kühler funktioniert einfach und das ziemlich gut. Ich hatte nicht einmal mehr ein Überkochen des Kühlwassers.
Also schaue ich jetzt mal nach dem Wasserstand.
Alles in Ordnung, es ist noch genügend Wasser im Kühler.

You get used to the fact that the car has not had a defect for a long time. I haven't checked the coolant level in a long time. Also, I've been driving for a long time with the simple radiator cap, instead of the engine meter. Well the radiator just works and it works pretty well. I haven't even had the coolant boil over anymore.

So now I check the water level.

Everything is fine, there is still enough water in the radiator.

331. Tag - Zuverlässigkeit /Reliability

Ich fahre das Model T jetzt schon 11 Monate im Alltag. Viele der Problem, welche ich zu Beginn hatte sind überwunden und die Tage an denen ich fahre und nicht repariere haben deutlich zugenommen. Die Reifen, der Kühler,  der Lüfter und die Zündung funktionieren ohne Probleme. Seit Januar hatte ich keinen Tag an dem ich wegen einer Reparatur nicht fahren konnte. So mussten sich die Ford Kunden vor 100 Jahre gefühlt haben. Ein Auto was einfach funktioniert. 1916 lag der weltweite Marktanteil des Model T's bei über 50%.
Vielleicht ist es jetzt an der Zeit weitere Strecken zu fahren.

I have been driving the Model T for 11 months now. Many of the problems I had at the beginning have been overcome and the days I drive and do not repair have increased significantly. The tires, radiator, fan and ignition all work without issue. Since January I have not had a day where I could not drive because of a repair. This is how Ford customers must have felt 100 years ago. A car that simply works. In 1916, the Model T's worldwide market share was over 50%.
Maybe it's time to drive more routes now.

330. Tag - Ein Tag wie im Zoo / A day like in the zoo

Ein Tag wie im Zoo - nur dass das Model T das Tier im Zoo ist. 
Den ganzen Tag lang musste das Model T für Photo Shootings der Passanten herhalten. Vermutlich ist das Auto das meist fotografierte Motiv in Saarbrücken. Ein Junge der unbedingt wissen wollte, was es kostet mit dem Auto rumgefahren zu werden und am Ende seine Mutter schickte um nach dem Preis zu fragen.
Das ganze wurde aber noch mal übertroffen, von dem Mitsubishi, der 2km neben mir her fuhr damit die Kinder auf dem Rücksitz das alte Auto durch die offene Seitenscheibe schauen konnten.

A day like in the zoo - only that the model T is the animal in the zoo.
All day long the Model T had to serve for photo shootings of the passers-by. Probably the car is the most photographed motive in Saarbrücken. A boy who really wanted to know what it costs to be driven around in the car and in the end sent his mother to ask for the price.
But the whole thing was surpassed by the Mitsubishi, which drove 2km next to me so that the children in the back seat could look at the old car through the open side window.

329. Tag - Beinahe Unfall / Near accident

Ich gebe es zu. Genau von dem Fahrmanöver habe ich kein Video. Als ich ins Auto einstieg dachte ich darüber nach, ob ich die Kamera montieren soll. Was soll es bringen immer die gleiche Strecke zu filmen? Ich habe sie nicht montiert.
Heute regnet es. Vor mir fährt ein Auto, die Ampel schaltet auf rot und das Auto stoppt vor der Ampel. Aus irgend einem Grund bin ich nicht aufmerksam genug. Sofort betätige ich die Fußbremse, die Hinterräder blockieren. Auf der nassen Straße ist der Bremsweg aber zu lang. Es hätte nicht mehr gereicht. links neben mir der Mittelstreifen mit Straßenbahn und Bäumen. Ich weiche dem vor mir stehenden Wagen aus und schieße auf den Mittelstreifen, knapp am Baum vorbei. Der Wagen kommt zum stehen.
Die Gesichter der Passanten sind nicht zu bezahlen. Jetzt heißt es Haltung zu bewahren und irgendwie einen souveränen Eindruck zu machen. Ich versuche so entspannt wie möglich zu erscheinen und das nach einem wirklich spektakulären Fahrmanöver.
Was habe ich gelernt? Gerade bei nasser Straße braucht es mehr Aufmerksamkeit und entsprechend Abstand. 

I admit it. I don't have a video of that exact driving maneuver. When I got into the car I thought about whether I should mount the camera. What's the point of filming the same route every time? I did not mount it.
Today it is raining. A car is driving in front of me, the traffic light turns red and the car stops in front of the light. For some reason I am not attentive enough. Immediately I apply the foot brake, the rear wheels lock. But on the wet road, the braking distance is too long. It wouldn't have been enough. To my left is the median strip with a streetcar and trees. I swerve to avoid the car in front of me and shoot onto the median, just past the tree. The car comes to a stop.
The faces of the passers-by are not to be paid. Now I have to keep my composure and somehow make a confident impression. I try to appear as relaxed as possible after a truly spectacular driving maneuver.
What have I learned? Especially when the road is wet, you need to pay more attention and keep your distance.

328. Tag - Baumparker / Tree Parker

Eigentlich nennt man Autos, welche auf der Straße parken "Laternenparker". Straßenlichter machen aber keinen Dreck. Bäume schon und nicht zu wenig. Zum Glück läßt sich das Model T schnell reinigen.
Actually, cars which park on the street are called "lantern parkers". But street lights don't make a mess. Trees do, and not too little. Fortunately, the Model T can be cleaned quickly.

327. Tag - Deplatzierter Lichtschalter / Out of place light switch

Ich habe mich so gefreut  einen passenden Lichtschalter und eine günstige Stelle zur Montage unter dem Sitz gefunden zu haben. Den zusätzlichen Lichtschalter war notwendig um die 12V LED Lampen in den Hauptscheinwerfer separat zu schalten. Lediglich der silberne Aluminiumknopf des Schalters fand ich etwas unpassend und habe ihn  mit einem schwarzen Textilklebeband umwickelt. So weit war das alles gut.

Der Knopf ist aber etwas zu lang und ragt über den Sitz hinaus, vielleicht liegt es aber auch an dem Klebeband. Auf alle Fälle passiert es jetzt immer wieder, dass ich beim Einsteigen mit dem Bein am Schalter hängen bleibe und ohne es zu merken das Licht einschalte. Eine Nacht hat das Model T die Garagenwand angeleuchtet bis die Batterie komplett leer war. Seit Tagen lade ich nun die Batterie immer wieder auf, das Ladegerät hat sie aber noch nicht vollständig laden können. Ich hoffe mal, dass die Batterie nicht beschädigt ist.

I was so happy to have found a suitable light switch and a convenient place to mount it under the seat. The additional light switch was necessary to switch the 12V LED lamps in the main headlight separately. Only the silver aluminum button of the switch I found a bit inappropriate and wrapped it with a black textile tape. So far it was all good.

However, the button is a bit too long and protrudes above the seat, but maybe it is also due to the tape. In any case, it now happens every so often that I get my leg caught on the switch when I get in the car and turn on the lights without realizing it. One night the Model T lit up the garage wall until the battery was completely empty. I have been charging the battery on and off for days now, but the charger has not been able to fully charge it yet. I hope that the battery is not damaged.

326. Tag - Ölverbrauchsmessung / Oil consumption measurement

Vor 380km habe ich den letzten Ölwechsel gemacht und eben eben 1 Liter Öl nachgefüllt. Das wären 2,63l/1000km. Aber eigentlich hätte ich noch mehr Öl nachgefüllt, wenn ich es dabei gehabt hätte. Vielleicht noch einen halben Liter. Das werde ich morgen nachholen. Dann wäre der Verbrauch 3,9l/1000km. Bei modernen Motoren sagt man, dass ein Verbrauch bis zu 0,25l/1000km normal wäre.
Before 380km I have made the last oil change and just refilled 1 liter of oil. That would be 2.63l/1000km. But actually I would have refilled even more oil if I had it with me. Maybe another half liter. I will make up for that tomorrow. Then the consumption would be 3,9l/1000km. With modern engines, they say that consumption would be normal up to 0.25l/1000km.

325. Tag - Öl filtern / Filter Oil

Jetzt steht der Kaffeefilter mit dem Öl schon Wochen in der Werkstatt, das Öl möchte aber nicht durch den Kaffeefilter fließen. Auch nicht mit dem originalen Kaffeefilter Trichter.
Entweder ich gebe das Proekt "Öl filtern" auf oder ich baue eine richtige Filteranlage mit Ölfilter und Pumpe. Hat jemand Lösungsvorschläge?

Now the coffee filter with the oil has been in the workshop for weeks, but the oil does not want to flow through the coffee filter. Not even with the original coffee filter funnel.

Either I give up the project "oil filter" or I build a proper filter system with oil filter and pump. Does anyone have any suggestions for solutions?
