Die Überprüfung des Magnetos steht noch aus. Der Magneto hat schon nicht richtig funktioniert nachdem der Motor Überholt worden ist. Der Motor ist zwar mit dem Magneto gelaufen, sobald aber das Licht angeschaltet wurde reichte die Spannung nicht mehr aus und der Motor ist abgestorben. Es hatte dann nicht lange gedauert, bis der Magneto überhaupt keinen Strom mehr lieferte.
The magneto has yet to be checked. The magneto did not work properly after the engine was overhauled. The engine ran with the magneto, but as soon as the light was turned on, the voltage was no longer sufficient and the engine died. It was not long before the magneto no longer supplied any current.
First I check the force of the magnets. I had a similar problem with my original motor, but it was solved by magnetizing the magnets. It is a good indication of working magnets if a screwdriver sticks to the magnets. That is the case here. For the picture, I held a screw to the magnets. The screw does not fall down. The magnetic force should be sufficient.
Prüfung auf Unterbrechung: Sollte es beim Kontakt der Batterie mit dem Magneto keine Funken geben, ist der Stromkreis unterbrochen (eher unwahrscheinlich).
Prüfung auf Kurzschluss: Ein Kurzschluss wird Wärme erzeugen. Wahrscheinlich würde dann das Öl verdampfen. So kann man den Kurzschluss lokalisieren.
Next, I want to connect a 12 volt battery to the magneto. There are two possible faults: either the coil circuit is broken or there is a short to ground. In both cases, the magneto will not supply current.

Before I connect the 12 volt battery to the magneto, I determine the polarity of the magnets and the coils. The magnets should be positioned exactly in front of the coils and have reversed polarity. Then they are additionally magnetized by connecting the battery. If they should have the same polarity, the magnets would be demagnetized.
This magnet of the flywheel repels the south pole of the bar magnet and attracts the north pole. The magnet of the flywheel thus points with its south pole to the coil.
The adjacent coils are reversed in polarity.
Now I look at the contact of the mag coil. This is damaged. The insulation is broken and the whole contact can be bent out. This is not necessarily the cause of the fault, but it is anything but good.
First I test the circuit of the mag coil for continuity. The negative coil of the battery is connected to the motor housing and I briefly hold the positive pole to the positive pole. There are sparks and that means that the circuit is not broken.
However, I still do not know whether the mag coil former has a short circuit to ground. I will check this by applying current to the coil former for a longer time.
During further testing, something unexpected happens. The mag coil starts to burn and I decide to replace the complete coil ring.
