324. Tag - Auspuffreparatur / Exhaust Repair

"Ich leg mich mal kurz unter's Auto."
Würde ich kein Model-T fahren, wäre das vermutlich eine verstörende Aussage. Aber viele Dinge am Model T kann man schnell reparieren und es gibt genügend Platz unter dem Auto um sich mal kurz drunter zu legen und etwas zu reparieren. jetzt geht es um den klappernden Auspuff. Oder genauer gesagt um das Auspuffrohr, welches zu viel Platz im Flansch des Auspufftopfes hat und darum beim Fahren rappelt. Ich möchte einfach ein dünnes Bleche dazwischen schieben. Das Blech habe ich schnell ausgeschnitten um dann zu merken, dass das nicht funktioniert. Soviel Platz ist gar nicht zwischen den beiden Rohren. Es passt nur ein Teilstück des Bleches dazwischen. So wird das zwar nicht ganz dicht, aber das Rappeln ist abgestellt.

Jetzt noch das Blech mit einer Schlauchschelle sichern und fertig. Leider habe ich vor zwei Wochen meine Werkstatt aufgeräumt. Die Kiste mit den Schlauchschellen ist leider spurlos verschwunden. Ich hoffe mal, dass das Blech bis morgen nicht herausfällt. Dann kaufe ich eine passende Schelle und sage noch mal: "Ich leg mich mal kurz unters Auto."

If I didn't drive a Model T, that would probably be a disturbing statement. But many things on the Model T can be fixed quickly, and there's plenty of room under the car to lay down and fix something. now it's about the rattling exhaust. Or more precisely the exhaust pipe, which has too much space in the flange of the muffler and therefore rattles when driving. I just want to slide a thin sheet of metal in between. I quickly cut out the sheet metal only to find that it doesn't work. There is not that much space between the two tubes. Only a part of the sheet metal fits between them. So it is not completely tight, but the rattling is stopped.

Now secure the plate with a hose clamp and you're done. Unfortunately I cleaned up my workshop two weeks ago. The box with the hose clamps disappeared without a trace. I hope that the plate does not fall out until tomorrow. Then I'll buy a suitable clamp and say again, "I'll just lie down under the car."

Nachtrag 19.06.2021: Ich habe heute endlich mal eine stabile Schraubschelle im Baumarkt gefunden und damit das Stück Blech am Auspuff gesichert.
Addendum 19.06.2021: I finally found a sturdy screw clamp at the hardware store today and used it to secure the piece of sheet metal to the exhaust.

323. Tag - Panama Hut / Panama Hat

 

Bei Temperaturen weit über 30°C ist der Bowler Hut nicht mehr die beste Wahl. Er ist wirklich hervorragend im Winter oder bei Regen und an sehr windigen Tagen. Der Bowler ist ein formstabiler, steifer Hut der gut vor Kälte und Regen schützt. Im Sommer ist er aber zu warm. Darum habe ich jetzt einen Fedora Hut aus Panama Stroh angezogen. Dieser Hut ist luftig und schützt sehr gut vor der Sonne.

Leider ist er aber für das Model T nur bedingt geeignet. Bei herunter geklappter Windschutzscheibe fängt die Krempe an stark im Wind zu flattern. Das ist etwas unangenehm und der Hut wird vermutlich in kurzer Zeit Schaden nehmen.
At temperatures well above 86°F, the bowler hat is no longer the best choice. It is really excellent in winter or in rain and very windy days. The Bowler is a form-stable, stiff hat that protects well from cold and rain. However, it is too warm in the summer. That's why I now put on a Fedora hat made of Panama straw. This hat is airy and protects very well from the sun.

Unfortunately, however, it is only conditionally suitable for the Model T. With the windshield down, the brim starts to flap strongly in the wind. This is somewhat unpleasant and the hat will probably take damage in a short time.

Mit aufgestellter Windschutzscheibe ist der Effekt nicht so schlimm. Ich möchte aber gerade an heißen Tagen lieber mit herunter geklappter Windschutzscheibe fahren. Vielleicht ist ein Boater Hut eine Alternative.
With the windshield up, the effect is not so bad. However, I would prefer to drive with the windshield down, especially on hot days. Maybe a boater hat is an alternative.

322. Tag - Model T Ford Owners @ Facebook

Ab und zu schreibe ich einen kleinen Artikel auf Facebook zum Model T und dem Blog. Ich habe heute das Problem mit dem undichten Benzinhahn beschrieben und um Rat gefragt. Kann man das reparieren?
Die Reaktionen und die Hilfsbereitschaft sind überwältigend. Den Benzinhahn kann man offensichtlich sehr einfach abdichten, indem man ihn in den Sitz einschleift. Das werde ich direkt mal ausprobieren, wenn der Tank wieder etwas leerer ist.
Hier möchte ich allen in der Facebook Gruppe danken, die immer bereit sind andere zu unterstützen und mit Rat zu helfen.

Every now and then I write a small article on Facebook about the Model T and the blog. Today I described the problem with the leaking fuel tap and asked for advice. Is it possible to fix it?
The reactions and the helpfulness are overwhelming. Apparently the fuel cock can be sealed very easily by looping it into the seat. I'll try that right away when the tank is a little emptier again.

321. Tag - Ruhe bitte / Silence Please

Ich möchte mich etwas um die die Geräusche des Wagens kümmern. Immer wenn ich über etwas rüber fahre klappert das Auto hinten. Ich lege mich also unter das Auto und wackele mal an alle Teile. Das erste was ich gefunden habe ist der Auspuff. Das Auspuffrohr hat zu viel Spiel im Auspufftopf. Die Dichtmasse, welche ich bei der Montage verwendet habe ist vollständig verschwunden. Ich werde versuchen das Rohr mit einem Blech abzudichten.
I would like to take care of the noises of the car a little bit. Whenever I drive over something, the car rattles in the back. I lay down under the car and wiggle all the parts. The first thing I find is the exhaust. The exhaust pipe has too much play in the muffler. The sealant I used during assembly is completely gone. I will try to seal the pipe with a sheet of metal.

320. Tag - Verbogener Kotflügel / Bent fender

Heute war ein anstrengender Tag. Während ich noch an der Treppe arbeite, laufen ein unglaubliche Menge an Leuten vorbei. Es gibt kaum eine Minute in der niemand das Auto fotografiert. Leider gibt es auch viele Menschen die sich auf das Trittbrett stellen oder ins Auto steigen wollen um Fotos zu machen. Ich kann aber nicht nur auf das Auto aufpassen, sonst wird die Treppe nie fertig. Irgendwann hat sich wohl auch jemand auf den Kotflügel gesetzt. Sehr ärgerlich.

Today was a busy day. While I'm still working on the stairs, an incredible amount of people walk by. There is hardly a minute in which no one takes pictures of the car. Unfortunately, there are also many people who want to stand on the running board or get into the car to take pictures. But I can't just watch the car, otherwise the stairs will never be finished. At some point, someone probably also sat on the fender. Very annoying.

319. Tag - undichter Benzinhahn / leaking sediment bowl assembly

Ist das normal? Der Benzinhahn unter dem Tank ist undicht. Das Benzin kommt auf beiden Seiten des Hahns heraus. Nicht so viel das etwas herunter tropft, aber genug um den  Sedimentsammler ständig zu benetzen. Da werden sicher einige Liter in der Woche verloren gehen. Ich muss das klären und abstellen.
Is this normal? The fuel tap under the tank is leaking. Gasoline is coming out both sides of the petcock. Not so much that anything drips down, but enough to constantly wet the sediment bowl. There's bound to be a few litters lost a week. I need to get this cleared up and turned off.

318. Tag - Aktueller Verbrauch / Current consumption

 

Meinen Reservekanister hatte ich vor ein paar Tagen in das Motorrad, einer BMW R25/3 von 1954 gefüllt. Ein Benzinschlauch des Motorrades war porös, der Tank vollständig trocken.
Also dachte ich, dass es eine gute Idee ist, schon heute zur Tankstelle zu fahren und den Benzintank des Model Ts und den Reservekanister zu füllen.
Dabei habe ich nochmal den aktuellen Verbrauch ausgerechnet. Ich bin 118,2km gefahren und habe 19 Liter Benzin getankt. Das ist ziemlich genau ein Verbrauch von 16l/100km. Das ist für Kurzstrecken in der Stadt ziemlich gut. Wobei ich auch sehr entspannt gefahren bin. Mit dem Verbrauch bin ich sehr froh. Außerdem habe ich festgestellt, dass der Absperrhahn am Tank nicht ganz dicht ist. Der Wassersammler ist immer mit etwas Benzin benetzt. Darum werde ich mich demnächst kümmern. Vielleicht geht dann der Verbrauch noch weiter runter.
I had filled my spare canister into the motorcycle, a 1954 BMW R25/3, a few days ago. A gasoline hose of the motorcycle was porous, the tank completely dry.
So I thought it would be a good idea to go to the gas station already today and fill the Model T's gas tank and the spare can.
While doing so, I calculated the current consumption again. I drove 118.2km and filled up with 19 liters of gasoline. That's pretty much a consumption of 14,7mpg. That is pretty good for short distance traffic in the city. Whereby I also drove very relaxed. I am very happy with the consumption. I also noticed that the stopcock on the tank is not completely tight. The water collector is always wetted with some gasoline. I will take care of that soon. Maybe then the consumption will go down even further.

317. Tag - Das erste Eis / The first ice cream

Heute habe ich das erste Eis dieses Jahr bekommen und habe versucht es im Model T zu essen. 

Au dem Weg nach Hause treffe ich Salvatore. Salvatore hat die beste mobile Eisdiele in Saarbrücken. Bis letztes Jahr ist er noch in einem Volkswagen T3 gefahren, dieser musste er aber leider abgeben und fährt jetzt einen jüngeren VW Bus.
Today I got the first ice cream of this year and tried to eat it in the Model T. 
On the way home I meet Salvatore. Salvatore has the best mobile ice cream parlor in Saarbrücken. Until last year he drove a Volkswagen T3, but unfortunately he had to give it up and now drives a younger VW Bus.

Ich bat ihn mir sein bestes Eis zu geben, worauf er meinte alle Sorten seien sehr gut. Das stimmt auch. Salvatore hat mir dann seine Auswahl angeboten.
I asked him to give me his best ice cream, whereupon he said all varieties were very good. That is also true. Salvatore then offered me his selection.

Der Versuch das Eis im Auto zu essen ging dann aber leider nicht so gut aus.

316. Tag - Das Rennen / The Race

Ein Rennen mit einem Porsche zu gewinnen ist einfach, wenn man genügend Ortskenntnis hat.
Wie ist es aber auf freier Strecke ohne den Vorteil bekannter Ampelphasen?

Hier präsentiere ich den neuen Gegner: Ein weißer - äähhh keine Ahnung was es ist. Das weiße Auto sieht aber irgendwie aus wie ein Rennwagen. Hubraum? Zylinder? Leistung? Egal, ich habe keine Angst, auch nicht vor dem Unbekannten.
Was hat es denn für ein Nummernschild? Ist das ein Mofakennzeichen für Fahrzeuge bis 45km/h? Dann ist es ja gar kein Auto. Jetzt bloß den Gegner nicht unterschätzen! Mofas haben immer ein Tuning.

Ich positioniere mich neben den Gegner. Das Rennen kann beginnen.

Winning a race with a Porsche is easy if you have enough local knowledge.
But what about on the open road without the advantage of known traffic light phases?

Here I present the new opponent: a white - uhh no idea what it is. But the white car looks somehow like a racing car. Displacement? Cylinders? Power? Never mind, I'm not afraid, not even of the unknown.
What kind of license plate does it have? Is it a moped license plate for vehicles up to 45km/h? Then it's not a car at all. Don't underestimate your opponent! Mopeds are always tuned.

I position myself next to the opponent. The race can begin.

315. Tag - Notbremsung / Emergency stop

Ich habe oft darüber gelesen, dass die Kunst beim Model T Fahren nicht das Fahren, sondern das Bremsen ist. Bevor ich den Blog begonnen habe, war es auch meine größtes Bedenken ob das Model T im Stadtverkehr sicher genug sei. Heute konnte ich mich davon überzeugen. Die Getriebebremse reicht im Stadtverkehr aus, auch für eine Notbremsung.
Allerdings sollte man drei Dinge beachten:

- Die Bremse muss richtig eingestellt sein.

- Man braucht genügend Fahrerfahrung, um auch in einer Stresssituation die richtige Pedale zu benutzen.

- Vorausschauendes Fahren hilft immer.

I've often read about how the trick to Model T driving is not the driving, but the braking. Before I started the blog, my biggest concern was whether the Model T would be safe enough in city traffic. Today I was able to convince myself. The transmission brake is sufficient in city traffic, even for emergency braking.

However, one should pay attention to three things:

- The brake must be properly adjusted.

- You need enough driving experience to use the right pedals even in a stressful situation.

- Driving with foresight always helps.

314. Tag - Beetle

Auch wenn der Beetle nicht der Käfer ist, welcher das Model T als meistgebautes Auto ablöste, so hat es doch etwas spezielles mit dem Ur-Käfer und Model T gemeinsam: Das im offenen Zustand aufgesetzte Verdeck. Auch der Beetle ist offen schön anzusehen.
Even though the New Beetle is not the original Beetle that replaced the Model T as the most built car, it does have something special in common with the original Beetle and Model T: The top that is put on when open. The New Beetle is also beautiful to look at when open.

Ich weis nicht wieviel Aufwand es ist das Verdeck eines Beetles zu öffnen. Ein Freund hat es mir aber mal mit seinem Golf I Cabrio demonstriert. Das ist ungefähr so viel Arbeit wie beim Model T. Vielleicht ist das der Grund warum man niemals ein offenes Golf Cabrio fahren sieht. Die Golf Fahrer lassen es einfach aus Faulheit zu. Ich hingegen lasse das Verdeck des Model Ts einfach aus Faulheit offen. :-)
I don't know how much effort it takes to open the top of a Beetle. But a friend of mine demonstrated it with his Rabbit convertible. It's about as much work as the Model T. Maybe that's why you never see a Rabbit convertible open. Rabbit drivers just let it go out of laziness. I, on the other hand, leave the Model T's top down simply out of laziness. :-)

Vom Käfer wurde übrigens 21,5 Millionen gebaut. Dazu brauchte Volkswagen 65 Jahre von 1938 bis 2003. Ford hat in 15 Jahren von 1908 bis 1927 15 Millionen Model Ts gebaut.

Der Umstand, dass Volkswagen 65 Jahre den Käfer bauen konnte lässt sich nur dadurch erklären, dass der Käfer bereits 1938 konstruktiv so ausgereift war, dass er noch bis 2003 verkauft werden konnte. Das Model T hingegen war vom Stand der Technik noch nicht soviel Auto wie man es nach 1927 erwartete, hat aber hat den Automobilbau revolutioniert. Ford hat damit 2,4 mal mehr Autos pro Jahre verkauft als Volkswagen.

By the way, 21.5 million of the Beetle were built. It took Volkswagen 65 years from 1938 to 2003 to do this. Ford built 15 million Model Ts in 15 years from 1908 to 1927.

The fact that Volkswagen was able to build the Beetle for 65 years can only be explained by the fact that the design of the Beetle was already so mature in 1938 that it could still be sold until 2003. The Model T, on the other hand, was not as much of a car as was expected after 1927, but it revolutionized automobile manufacturing. Ford sold 2.4 times more cars per year than Volkswagen.

313. Tag - Summer in the city

Auch wenn ich heute das Model T nur genutzt habe um in Saarbrücken zu fahren und ansonsten meine Treppe weitergebaut habe, ist es doch schön wieder bei Wetter wie im Hochsommer zu fahren. Das Dach ist offen und die Windschutzscheibe runtergeklappt. Fantastisches Fahrgefühl.

Zur Zeit habe ich gar nicht den Motormeter auf dem Kühler installiert. Irgendwie interessiert mich die Wassertemperatur nicht mehr. Das Kühlwasser ist schon seit langem nicht mehr übergekocht. Der endlich problemlos funktionierende Lüfter und der neue Kühler machen einen guten Job. 
Öl verliert der Motor kaum noch und selbst die Zündspulen machen keine Probleme.

Vielleicht soll ein Model T genau so funktionieren.

Even though I only used the Model T today to drive in Saarbrücken and otherwise continued building my stairs, it's nice to drive again in weather like in high summer. The roof is open and the windshield is down. Fantastic driving experience.

At the moment I don't even have the engine meter installed on the radiator. Somehow I don't care about the water temperature anymore. The coolant hasn't boiled over in a long time. The fan, which is finally working smoothly, and the new radiator are doing a good job. 

The engine hardly loses any oil and even the ignition coils don't cause any problems.

Maybe a Model T should work just like that.

312. Tag - Baue eine Treppe und lerne / Build stairs and learn

Heute ging es nicht darum Auto zu fahren oder zu reparieren, sondern eine Treppe zu bauen. Doch da das Model T direkt daneben stand wurde es doch irgendwie ein Model-T Tag. Die Gespräche der Passanten sind schon bemerkenswert. Die Krönung war eine Frau, welche das Auto ins 16. oder 17. Jahrhundert datierte. Was so alt, das wusste ich gar nicht! 😕

Gab es da nicht noch die Azteken und Inka in Amerika? Und dann kamen die Spanier.
Das 17. Jahrhundert war dann die große Zeit der Seefahrer. Die Segelschiffe, welche die Welt veränderten waren gigantisch im Vergleich zum Model-T. Wer hätte gedacht, dass 300 Jahre später dieses kleine Auto die Welt weitaus mehr verändern wird, als irgend etwas davor.

Today it was not about driving or repairing a car, but building a staircase. But since the Model T was standing right next to it, it somehow became a Model T day. The conversations of the passers-by were remarkable. The crowning glory was a woman who dated the car to the 16th or 17th century. What so old, I did not know at all! 😕

Weren't there the Aztecs and Incas in the Americas? And then came the Spanish.

Then the 17th century was the great time of the sailors. The sailing ships that changed the world were gigantic compared to the Model-T. Who would have thought that 300 years later, this little car would change the world far more than anything before it.

311. Tag - Hoher Bordstein / High curb

Wie hoch darf ein Bordstein sein, den man runterfährt?

Eben bin ich einen Bordstein runtergefahren, der fast 20cm hoch war. Zuerst habe ich es nicht gesehen, im letzten Moment mich aber getraut. 

Und der Wagen? Den hat es gar nicht interessiert. Warum auch? Er wurde für viel schlimmere Straßen konstruiert. Da muss ich doch mal mehr austesten.
How high can a curb be that you drive down?
I just drove down a curb that was almost 20cm high. At first I didn't see it, but at the last moment I dared.
And the car? It didn't care at all. Why should it? It was designed for much worse roads. I'll have to test it out more.

310. Tag - Drive In

Die Baustelle zuhause muss beliefert werden. Kurz vor Feierabend brauche ich noch ein Sack Fliesenkleber und vor allem frisches Bier. Wie gut, dass es im Baumarkt einen Drive-In gibt. Es ist immer wieder lustig wenn ein Kunde um das Regal fährt und ihm ein Model T entgegenkommt. Das Gesicht dieser Leute ist unbezahlbar.

Leider habe ich den Fliesenkleber in keinem der Drive-In Regale gefunden. Den Kleber gab es nur im normalen Baumarkt. Bier gibt es auch nicht im Baumarkt Drive-In.

Fazit: Der Baumarkt Drive-In hat noch ein gewaltiges Potential besser zu werden. 

The construction site at home needs to be supplied. Just before closing time, I need a bag of tile adhesive and, above all, fresh beer. How good that there's a drive-in at the DIY store. It's always funny when a customer drives around the shelf and a Model T comes toward him. The look on those people's faces is priceless.

Unfortunately, I didn't find the tile adhesive on any of the drive-in shelves. The glue was only available at the regular hardware store. Beer is also not available at the hardware store drive-in.

Conclusion: The Baumarkt Drive-In still has a huge potential to become better. 

 

309. Tag - schlechte moderne Qualität / Poor Modern Quality

Mein Auto blinzelt mich mit dem rechten Scheinwerfer an. Vielleicht mag es mich, vielleicht ist es aber auch ein Wackelkontakt.

Der Ausbau der modernen LED Lampe zeigt sofort den Grund: Armselige Qualität moderner Leuchtmittel. Diese Lampe hat jemand konstruiert der entweder von nichts eine Ahnung hat oder dem es einfach egal ist welche Qualität sein Produkt hat. Henry hätte sowas nicht in seinen T eingebaut.

Die Platine der LED Konstruktion ist an drei Stellen an den Lampensockel gelötet. Es gibt keine formschlüssige Verbindung von Lampensockel und Platine. Beim wieder anlöten der Platine zeigt sich außerdem, dass die Oberfläche des Sockels auch nicht wirklich zum Löten geeignet ist.

Mal sehen wie lange das jetzt den Vibrationen des Model-Ts standhält.

My car blinks at me with its right headlight. Maybe it likes me, or maybe it's a loose contact.

The removal of the modern LED lamp immediately shows the reason: Poor quality of modern illuminants. This lamp was designed by someone who either doesn't know anything about anything or just doesn't care about the quality of his product. Henry would not have built something like this into his T.

The circuit board of the LED construction is soldered to the lamp base in three places. There is no positive connection between lamp socket and PCB. When soldering the PCB back on, it also shows that the surface of the base is not really suitable for soldering either.

Let's see how long this will withstand the vibrations of the Model-T.

308. Tag - Öl filtern / Filter Oil

Jetzt googele ich schon die Porengröße von Kaffeefilter. Warum? Vor 24 Tagen habe ich das gebrauchte Motoröl filtern wollen und dazu einen Kaffeefilter aus Papier und einen einfachen Trichter verwendet. Jetzt 24 Tag später sind gerade mal 2cm Öl durchgelaufen. Kann es sein, dass ein Kaffeefilter viel feiner ist als ein Ölfilter?
Die Recherche ergibt eine Porengröße beim Kaffeefilter von 10 Mikrometer. Ein normaler Ölfilter hat 5 bis 10 Mikrometer. Liegt es am fehlenden Druck? Vielleicht. Ich bin kein Filterexperte und muss mich da erst etwas einlesen. Solange ersetzte ich mal den Trichter durch einen echten Kaffeefilterhalter, den ich inzwischen besorgt habe. Dieser hat innen Stege, die verhindern, dass der Filter an der glatten Oberfläche des Trichters anliegt. Ich hoffe mal, dass Melitta Bentz 1908 wusste, wie sie einen Kaffeefilter entwickeln muss.  

Now I'm already googling the pore size of coffee filters. Why? 24 days ago I wanted to filter the used engine oil and used a paper coffee filter and a simple funnel. Now 24 days later just 2cm of oil has passed through. Could it be that a coffee filter is much finer than an oil filter?
Research shows a pore size on the coffee filter of 10 microns. A normal oil filter has 5 to 10 microns. Is it due to the lack of pressure? Maybe. I'm not a filter expert and need to read up on this. In the meantime I replaced the funnel with a real coffee filter holder, which I got in the meantime. This one has ridges on the inside that prevent the filter from resting against the smooth surface of the funnel. I hope that Melitta Bentz knew how to design a coffee filter in 1908.  

307. Tag - Differential Ölcheck / Differential Oil Check

Nachdem ich den Getriebeausgang von außen abgedichtet habe und dort kaum noch Öl herausläuft, frage ich mich was mit dem Öl passiert, wenn es das Getriebe verläßt. Entweder ist der Ölstand im Kugelgehäuse des Kardans dann so hoch, dass kein weiteres öl mehr aus dem Getriebe herauslaufen kann oder es sucht sich seinen Weg durch das Kardanrohr ins Differential. Am einfachsten ist es mal den Ölstand im Differential zu kontrollieren. Das ist ganz einfach. Die Schraube rechts am Differential herausdrehen und nachschauen.
After I sealed the gearbox outlet from the outside and hardly any oil runs out there, I wonder what happens to the oil when it leaves the gearbox. Either the oil level in the ball housing of the cardan is then so high that no more oil can run out of the gearbox or it seeks its way through the cardan tube into the differential. The easiest way is to check the oil level in the differential. This is very simple. Unscrew the screw on the right side of the differential and check.

Der Ölstand ist zu hoch. Normalerweise füllt man ein Differential immer bis an den Rand der Einfüllöffnung. Beim Model T soll der Ölstand 20mm darunter liegen. Wenn Öl beim Öffnen herausläuft ist der Füllstand eindeutig zu viel. Das Öl kann eigentlich nur über das Kardanrohr in das Differential gelaufen sein. Damit ist es nicht nur zu viel Öl, sondern auch zu dünn. Das Öl im Differential ist wesentlich dickflüssiger als das Motoröl.
The oil level is too high. Normally, you always fill a differential to the edge of the filler hole. On the Model T, the oil level should be 20mm below that. If oil runs out when you open it, the level is clearly too much. The oil can actually only have run into the differential through the gimbal tube. Thus, it is not only too much oil, but also too thin. The oil in the differential is much thicker than the engine oil.

Das Öl im Differential enthält auffällig viel Buntmetallpartikel. Hier ist ein Ölwechsel dringend notwendig. Ich muss nur noch passendes Öl besorgen.
The oil in the differential contains a noticeable amount of non-ferrous metal particles. An oil change is urgently needed here. I just have to get suitable oil.

Ich verschließe das Differential wieder und schaue mir die Bremstrommeln an. Im schlimmsten Fall würde das Öl vom Differential über die Hinterachse in die Bremstrommeln der Feststellbremse laufen. Doch hier ist alles in Ordnung. 
I close the differential again and look at the brake drums. In the worst case, the oil would run from the differential over the rear axle into the brake drums of the parking brake. But here, everything is in order. 

Lediglich auf der rechten Seite habe ich wohl zu viel Fett in das Radlager gemacht. Etwas Fett hat sich herausgedrückt. Aber es ist kein Öl in der Bremstrommel.
Only on the right side I probably put too much grease in the wheel bearing. Some grease has squeezed out. But there is no oil in the brake drum.

Ich habe noch etwas Zeit mein Kamerastativ aus den 60er zu reparieren. Ein Bein hat sich gelöst. Beim Demontieren fällt die lockere Schraube auf den Boden. Ich kann sie nicht mehr finden. Vielleicht taucht sie wieder auf oder ich muss eine Ersatzschraube besorgen.
I still have some time to repair my camera tripod from the 60s. One of the legs has come loose. While disassembling it, the loose screw falls to the floor. I can't find it anymore. Maybe it will turn up again or I will have to get a replacement screw.
