Sonst ist nicht viel heute passiert. Außer wieder viele Menschen einen kurzen Moment lang glücklich gemacht, wie zum Beispiel die beiden Radfahrer in dem Video.

Not much else happened today. Except again made many people happy for a brief moment, like the two cyclists in the video.

296. Tag - Alltagsfahrt / Everyday ride

Das Model T im Alltag zu fahren ist spannend. Es gibt aber auch eine zweite Seite der Münze.
Ein Auto im Alltag zu fahren bedeutet auch immer die gleichen Strecken zu fahren. Jeden Tag. Das ging mir diese Woche zum ersten mal auf die Nerven. Irgendwie ist mir das früher in den modernen Autos nicht aufgefallen.

Ich denke das liegt daran, dass man im modernen Auto gar nicht wirklich Auto fahrt. Ich meine, nicht so bewußt wie man das mit dem Model T macht. Man sitzt im modernen Auto, hört Radio oder telefoniert (natürlich mit Head Set). Man fährt aber nicht bewußt Auto. Das Fahren ist nur so etwas wie eine Nebenbeschäftigung. Was bedeutet überhaupt "Freude am Fahren" (Werbeslogans eines Autoherstellers) bei den aktuellen Autos? Wird es in Zukunft überhaupt noch Autofahren geben oder wird es nur noch Mitfahren im autonomen Auto sein?

Beim Model T Fahren hingegen, lebt man richtig. Ich meine man nimmt alles sehr bewußt war, besonders die Umgebung. Das ist der Grund warum mir die Alltagsstrecken jetzt ein wenig auf die Nerven gehen.

Eines der Bilder ist auf der Alltagsstrecke aufgenommen, die mich langweilt. Das andere Bild habe ich heute auf einer neuen Strecke aufgenommen, die mich begeisterte. Die Bilder sind so ähnlich, es ist aber ein großer Unterschied dazwischen.
Driving the Model T in everyday life is exciting. But there is also a second side to the coin.

Driving a car in everyday life also means driving the same routes all the time. Every day. That got on my nerves for the first time this week. Somehow I didn't notice that in modern cars before.

I think it's because you don't really drive at all in the modern car. I mean, not as consciously as you do with the Model T. You sit in the modern car, listen to the radio or talk on the phone (with a head set, of course). But you don't drive the car consciously. Driving is just something like a sideline. What does "driving pleasure" (a car manufacturer's advertising slogan) even mean in the current cars? Will there be any driving at all in the future, or will it just be riding along in an autonomous car?

With Model T driving, on the other hand, you really live. I mean you are very aware of everything, especially your surroundings. That's the reason why the everyday routes are getting on my nerves a bit now.

One of the pictures is taken on the everyday route, which bores me. The other picture I took today on a new route that excited me. The pictures are so similar, but there is a big difference between them.

Für alle, denen dieser Blog zu philosophisch war. Ich bin seit gestern 118,2km gefahren und habe 19l Benzin verbraucht. Das sind 16l/100km. Wenn man dem Benzin nicht die Zeit gibt im Tank zu verdunsten, passt auch der Verbrauch.
For all those who found this blog too philosophical. I have driven 118.2km since yesterday and used 19l of gasoline. That is 14,7mpg. If you don't give the gasoline time to evaporate in the tank, the consumption will also fit.

293. Tag - Ich mag Regentage / I like rainy days

Es mag die Leute verwundern, aber ich mag Regentage. Warum? Weil es im Model T ein völlig andere Erfahrung ist als in modernen Autos. In Modernen Autos sitzt man abgeschottet von der Umwelt in einem Auto und nimmt den Regen nur als störende Tropfen auf der Windschutzscheibe war. Mehr ist es nicht.
Beim Model T sitzt man irgendwie in der freien Natur ohne aber richtig naß zu werden. Man sitzt im Wagen in der gleichen Höhe wie die vorbeilaufenden Passanten und ist trotzdem durch das Dach geschützt. Aber nur wenige Zentimeter vom Regen entfernt, der direkt neben einem auf die Straße fällt. Manchmal kriegt man sogar einen Tropfen ab, aber nie wirklich viel. Man riecht den Regen richtig. Besonders schön ist es im Sommer, wenn kurz nach einem Regenschauer wieder die Sonne scheint. Vielleicht hat man genau jetzt das Glück auf einer Straße durch den Wald zu fahren.
Jetzt wisst ihr warum ich Regentage mag: Man fühlt sich im Model T dann richtig lebendig.

It may surprise people, but I like rainy days. Why? Because it is a completely different experience in the Model T than in modern cars. In modern cars you sit isolated from the environment in a car and perceive the rain only as annoying drops on the windshield. That's all it is.
In the Model T, you sit in the open air without getting wet. You sit in the car at the same height as the passers-by and are still protected by the roof. But only a few centimeters away from the rain that falls right next to you on the road. Sometimes you even get a drop, but never really much. You can really smell the rain. It's especially nice in the summer when the sun shines again shortly after a rain shower. Maybe right now you are lucky enough to drive on a road through the forest.
Now you know why I like rainy days: You feel really alive in the Model T then.

292. Tag - Die Bergstrecke / The Mountain Route

Da wirst du sogar von Hunden überholt!
Vor 300 Tagen hate ich noch Angst diesen Berg hinauf zu fahren. Jetzt ist mir das egal. Das Vertrauen in den Wagen ist mächtig gewachsen. Also fahre ich jetzt einfach mal 2km den Berg mit 8% (5°) Steigung hoch, nur mal um zu sehen in welcher Tagesform das Model T so ist. Mit nur einer Person (mir) schafft es der Wagen nicht komplett im zweiten Gang hoch. Ich muss immer wieder mal wieder in den ersten Gang zurück schalten. Eigentlich eine gute Strecke um Tuning Maßnahmen oder Einstellungen des Vergasers und der Zündung zu testen.

300 days ago I was still afraid to drive up this mountain. Now I don't care. The confidence in the car has grown mightily. So now I just drive 2km up the hill with a 8% (5°) incline, just to see what kind of shape the Model T is in. With only one person (me) the car doesn't make it completely up in second gear. I have to switch back to first gear every now and then. Actually a good route to test tuning measures or settings of the carburetor and ignition.

282. Tag - Testfahrt / Test drive

Zuerst habe ich heute nochmal bei Tageslicht und stehendem Wagen nach dem Geräusch gesucht. Sollte das Geräusch von den Magneto stammen, könnte das den Motor massiv beschädigen. Wenn die Magnete Kontakt zu den Spulen bekommen ist der Schaden sehr groß. Also habe ich zuerst den Motor von Hand durchgedreht und geprüft, ob es irgend einen Widerstand dabei gibt. Nichts. Ich vermute, dass das Geräusch von einem Gegenstand herrührt, der von der Schwungscheibe erfasst wird und zeitweise im Motorgehäuse herumgeschleudert wird. Also habe ich den Wagen vorsichtig gefahren. Zuerst nur in der näheren Umgebung, dann aber richtig weit. Am Ende bin ich 30km gefahren und der Wagen stand in der Werkstatt. Morgen werde ich das Öl ablassen um zu sehen, ob irgend ein Gegenstand zum Vorschein kommt.
First, I looked for the noise again today in daylight with the car stationary. If the noise comes from the magneto, it could cause massive damage to the engine. If the magnets get contact to the coils the damage is very big. So first I turned the motor by hand and checked if there was any resistance. Nothing. I suspect that the noise is coming from an object being caught by the flywheel and being temporarily thrown around in the engine case. So I drove the car carefully. At first only in the immediate area, but then really far. In the end I drove 30km and the car was in the shop. Tomorrow I will drain the oil to see if any item comes up.

278. Tag - Sonniger Tag in der Stadt / Sunny day in the city

Nach dem Frust mit dem Verdeck gestern habe ich den Tag heute genossen und bin einfach mal ein wenig mit offenem Verdeck und runtergeklappter Scheibe durch die Stadt gefahren.
After the frustration with the top yesterday, I enjoyed the day today and just drove around town for a bit with the top down and the window down.

271. Tag - Nicht mehr allein / No longer alone

Ab heute bin ich nicht mehr allein auf der Straße. Ich bin heute einem Käfer und einem Jaguar E-Type Coupe begegnet. Außerdem gab es noch einen Porsche 944, Toyota MR2 und einem Audi 100 aus den 80er. 

Da ist aber noch etwas passiert: Ich habe die 2000km heute erreicht. Seit dem Anfang des Blogs bin ich jetzt 2033km mit dem Model T gefahren.
As of today, I am no longer alone on the road. I encountered a Beetle and a Jaguar E-Type Coupe today. There was also a Porsche 944, Toyota MR2 and an Audi 100 from the 80s. But something else happened: I reached the 2000km today. Since the beginning of the blog I have now driven 2033km with the Model T.

269. Tag - Klingt so ein Motorschaden? / Is that what engine damage sounds like?

Eigentlich sollte heute ein ganz normaler Freitag sein. Ich wollte jemand besuchen und zur Arbeit fahren. Insgesamt 29km bei bestem Wetter.
Unterwegs gab es eine kleine lustige Szene mit Hund.
Actually, today was supposed to be a normal Friday. I wanted to visit someone and drive to work. A total of 29km in the best weather.
On the way there was a small funny scene with dog.

Und dann der große Schreck. Klingt so ein kapitaler Motorschaden?
And then the big shock. Is that what a major engine failure sounds like?

Sofort anhalten und schauen wo das Wasser oder Öl rausläuft. Da ist aber kein Öl, auch kein Wasser. Stattdessen macht die Tachowelle eine lustige Figur. Da das Tachogetriebe gerade ausgebaut ist, hängt die Tachowelle nur mit einem Kabelbinder an der Achse. Nur, der Kabelbinder ist verschwunden und die Welle hat sich zwischen dem großen Zahnrad des Tachoantriebes und dem Rad verfangen und schlägt an die Speichen des Zahnrades. Es ist kein Schaden entstanden, es war nur ein großer Schreck.
Stop immediately and look where the water or oil is running out. But there is no oil, and no water either. Instead, the speedometer cable cuts a funny figure. Since the speedometer gear is just removed, the speedometer cable hangs only with a cable tie on the axle. Only, the cable tie is gone and the shaft has gotten caught between the large gear of the speedometer drive and the wheel and is hitting the spokes of the gear. No damage has been done, it was just a big scare.

Zur Weiterfahrt lege ich die Tachowelle unter die Blattfeder und über die Achse. Leider funktioniert das nur eine kurze Zeit. 
To continue driving, I put the speedometer cable under the leaf spring and over the axle. Unfortunately, this only works for a short time. 

Dann muss ich die Tachowelle doch mit Kabelbinder fixieren. Kabelbinder sind im Moment die größte Abweichung vom Originalzustand des Wagens.
Then I have to fix the speedometer cable with cable ties after all. Cable ties are the biggest deviation from the original state of the car at the moment.

Was ist sonst noch passiert? Heute wurde ich zweimal gefragt, ob der Wagen auf der Autobahn fahren darf. Ja klar!
What else happened? Today I was asked twice if the car is allowed to drive on the highway. Yes sure!

262. Tag - Night cruise through the city

Es ist ein Traum, wenn man nach tagelangem Ärger mit der Zündung wieder hinter dem Lenkrad einer schnurrenden Tin Lizzy sitzt.
Gibt es was schöneres, als nachts durch die regennassen Straßen der Altstadt zu cruisen? Völlig entspannt, es gibt kaum Verkehr auf der Straße. Der Wagen gleitet fast schon im Leerlauf über die Kreuzungen. Langsam an den Radfahrern vorbei fahren, sie grüßen und ich grüße zurück.
Der Geruch des frischen Regens im offenen Wagen ist durch nichts zu übertreffen. Wissen die Fahrer klimatisierter Autos, in denen sie abgeschottet von der Welt sitzen, überhaupt was sie gerade verpassen?
Ich glaube nicht und das ist gut so. 😉

It's a dream come true to be back behind the wheel of a purring Tin Lizzy after days of trouble with the ignition.
Is there anything better than cruising through the rain-soaked streets of the old town at night? Completely relaxed, there's hardly any traffic on the road. The car glides through the intersections almost at idle. Slowly passing the cyclists, they greet and I greet back.
Nothing can beat the smell of the fresh rain in the open car. Do the drivers of air-conditioned cars, in which they sit isolated from the world, even know what they are missing?
I don't think so, and that's a good thing. 😉

261. Tag - Doch wieder Holzzündspule / But again wood ignition coil

Es braucht eine leere Batterie, ein Kontaktfehler in der Zündspulenbox und eine verstellte Zündspule um ein Model T auszubremsen.
Vielleicht war aber auch die Zündspule aus Holz gar nicht wirklich ein Problem. Egal, eigentlich hatte ich sie auf der Straße wieder eingestellt und dann gegen die Zündspule mit dem Kunsstoffgehäuse ausgetauscht. Nachdem sich aber die leere Batterie als eigentlicher Fehler herausgestellt hatte, kann ich ja nochmal versuchen ob die Holzzündspule jetzt funktioniert.
It takes a dead battery, a contact failure in the ignition coil box, and a misaligned ignition coil to slow a Model T down.
But maybe the wooden ignition coil wasn't really a problem at all. No matter, I had actually readjusted it on the road and then replaced it with the ignition coil with the plastic housing. But after the empty battery had turned out to be the actual error, I can try again whether the wooden ignition coil now works.

Vermutlich ist das Model T der einzige Wagen auf der Welt, bei dem man mit laufendem Motor eine Zündspule wechseln kann.
Probably the Model T is the only car in the world where you can change an ignition coil with the engine running.

Zuerst tausche ich die Holzzündspule mit den flachen Kontakten aus.
First I replace the wooden ignition coil with the flat contacts.

Jetzt kommt die Probefahrt und .... Der Wagen fährt wie ein Rennwagen. 
Now comes the test drive and .... The car drives like a race car. 

Danach tausche ich wieder die Kunsstoffzündspule gegen zuvor ausgebaute Holzzündspule aus. Der Wagen fährt genau so gut.
Then I replace the plastic ignition coil with the previously removed wooden ignition coil. The car runs just as well.

256. Tag - Regentag / Rainy Day

Heute gibt es nicht viel zu berichten. Das Model T fährt unaufgeregt, ohne irgendwelche Probleme zu machen. Eigentlich soll es genau so sein. Die Welt ist gerade mit anderen Dingen beschäftigt und so kann ich ruhig meine Runden drehen.

There is not much to report today. The Model T drives unexcitingly without causing any problems. Actually, that's exactly how it's supposed to be. The world is busy with other things right now, so I can quietly do my rounds.

255. Tag - Really Slow

Manche Leser dieses Blogs denken vielleicht, dass das Model T ein langsames Auto ist. Sie denken, dass es vielleicht in diesen Tagen das langsamste Fahrzeug mit Motor auf der Straße ist. 
NEIN! Das ist nicht so und hier kann ich den Beweis liefern. Ich präsentiere hier die wirklich langsame Piaggio APE 50:
Some readers of this blog may think that the Model T is a slow car. They think that it may be the slowest car with an engine on the road these days.
NO! It is not and here I can provide the proof. I present here the really slow Piaggio APE 50:

Die APE stammt von der Vespa ab und gibt es schon seit 1947 und war damals eine Vespa mit 3 Rädern, einer Ladefläche und 200kg Zuladung. 1956 bekam die APE C eine geschlossene Kabine und 1969 kam dann die APE 50 auf den Markt. Die vorherigen Modelle hatten einen Hubraum von 125ccm, die APE 50 hat heute einen 50ccm Motor mit 3PS und einer maximalen Geschwindigkeit von 40km/h.

Wenn sie einem am Berg entgegen kommt, scheint sie sogar zu stehen. Sie steht aber nicht, sondern fährt.

The APE is descended from the Vespa and has been around since 1947 and was then a Vespa with 3 wheels, a load floor and 200kg payload. In 1956 the APE C got a closed cabin and then in 1969 the APE 50 came on the market. The previous models had a displacement of 125cc, the APE 50 today has a 50cc engine with 3hp and a maximum speed of 40km/h.

When it comes towards you on a hill, it even seems to stand still. However, it does not stand, but drives.

Ich habe mal eine Probefahrt mit einer gebrauchten und einer neuen APE. Die gebrauchte APE war eine zweisitzige italienisch Version. Sie lief eigentlich ganz gut. Da eine gebrauchte APE selten günstig angeboten wird, stellt sich einem die Frage, ob eine neue APE nicht der bessere Kauf ist. Neu kostet sie ungefähr 6000€. Die erste Frage, welche der Händler stellte war, ob ich die APE für Werbung nutzen will oder sie womöglich fahren möchte. Ich wollte fahren. Bei der Probefahrt ging der Motor aus und war nicht mehr zu starten und ja einen Berg zu bezwingen ist kein Problem, wenn man genug Zeit hat.
Die Geschwindigkeit ist aber auch nicht, was die APE ausmacht. Sie ist ein unglaublicher Sympathieträger. Viele Menschen freuen sich, wenn sie eine APE auf der Straße sehen. 
Also wenn sie eine APE auf der Straße treffen, dann werden sie sich an diesen Blog erinnern und sich freuen.

I once test rode a used and a new APE. The used APE was a two-seat Italian version. It actually ran quite well. Since a used APE is rarely offered cheaply, one wonders if a new APE might not be a better buy. New it costs about 6000€. The first question the dealer asked was whether I wanted to use the APE for advertising or possibly drive it. I wanted to drive. During the test drive the engine went out and could not be started and yes conquering a mountain is not a problem if you have enough time.

However, speed is not what the APE is about either. It is an incredible sympathy bike. Many people are happy when they see an APE on the road. 

So when they meet an APE on the street, they will remember this blog and be happy.

250. Tag - Oster Sonntag / Easter Sunday

Oster Sonntag und fantastisches Wetter. Ich lasse die Ostereier versteckt im Garten liegen und steige in das Model T zu einer schönen Ausfahrt. Heute habe ich keine Eile, grüße die Passanten und freue mich über das warme Wetter.
Easter Sunday and fantastic weather. I leave the Easter eggs hidden in the garden and get into the Model T for a nice ride. Today I'm in no hurry, greet the passers-by and enjoy the warm weather.

248. Tag - Volllast / Full Load

Alltag ist meist keine gemütliche Oldtimerausfahrt mit Kaffee und Kuchen. Oft gibt es einen Termin und keine Zeit zum gemütlichen Fahren. Also auf die Autobahn und 20km mit Höchstgeschwindigkeit fahren. Jetzt muss man alles überholen was geht! :-)
Oft habe nur den normalen Kühlerdeckel montiert, damit niemand den Motormeter mitnimmt. Leider hatte ich keine Zeit den Motormeter auf den Kühler zu schrauben und weiß nicht wie heiß das Kühlwasser wurde. Ich sah aber kein Wasser überkochen.
Am Ziel angekommen, hat der Wagen aber im Hof seinen Fußabdruck hinterlassen. So sehen also die Spuren von in freier Wildbahn lebender Model Ts aus.

Everyday life is usually not a leisurely vintage car ride with coffee and cake. Often there is an appointment and no time for leisurely driving. So on the highway and drive 20km at top speed. Now you have to overtake everything that goes! :-)

Often have only the normal radiator cap mounted, so that no one takes the motor meter. Unfortunately I had no time to screw the motor meter on the radiator and do not know how hot the cooling water got. I did not see any water boiling over though.

However, when I arrived at my destination, the car left its footprint in the yard. So this is what the tracks of Model Ts living in the wild look like.

246. Tag - Rückwärts parken / Reverse Parking

Eben habe ich versucht den Wagen rückwärts auf die Rampe der Garage zu fahren. Ich erhoffe mir davon, dass diese Parkposition den Ölverlust am Getriebeausgang stoppen kann. Die Rampe hat eine Steigung von 10° (17%). Wenn der Wagen geparkt ist, fahre ich die Rampe hoch und reduziere so die Steigung auf 4° (7%). Die Vermutung ist, dass die Parkposition mit der Front nach oben das Öl aus dem Getriebe laufen läßt.

Da ich nicht wusste, ob das Verdeck mit dem Geländer kollidieren würde, war ich sehr vorsichtig. Das hat aber dazu geführt, dass ich die Radmulde am Ende der Rampe nicht erreicht habe. Der Wagen hat die Steigung nur mit Anlauf gepackt. Ein erneutes Anfahren auf der Rampe war nicht möglich. Es hat 5 Versuche gedauert, bis ich die Hinterräder in der Mulde hatte.
Just now I tried to drive the car backwards on the ramp of the garage. I hope that this parking position can stop the oil loss at the transmission output. The ramp has a slope of 10° (17%). When the car is parked, I drive up the ramp, reducing the slope to 4° (7%). The guess is that the parking position with the front up will allow the oil to run out of the transmission.
Not knowing if the top would collide with the railing, I was very careful. However, this resulted in me not reaching the wheel well at the end of the ramp. The car only managed the incline with a run-up. It was not possible to start up again on the ramp. It took 5 attempts until I had the rear wheels in the trough.

Den Wagen hat es sehr angestrengt. Der Kühler kochte über. Mal sehen, ob das rückwärts parken das Problem löst. Mit etwas Übung werde ich den Wagen sicher auch beim ersten Versuch in die Garage bekommen.
The car was very strained. The radiator boiled over. Let's see if parking in reverse solves the problem. With a little practice, I'm sure I'll get the car into the garage on the first try.

242. Tag - Neues Fahrgefühl / New driving experience

Es ist erstaunlich, dass man nach 241 Tagen Model T Fahren immer noch neue Dinge am Wagen entdeckt. Heute bin ich zum ersten mal mit runter geklappter Windschutzscheibe gefahren. Keine Ahnung, warum ich das nicht schon viel früher genutzt habe.
It's amazing that after 241 days of Model T driving, you're still discovering new things about the car. Today I drove with the windshield down for the first time. I don't know why I didn't use that much earlier.

Beim Runterklappen muss man etwas vorsichtig sein. Der Scheibenwischer kann dabei das Lenkrad verkratzen.
You have to be a bit careful when folding it down. The windshield wiper can scratch the steering wheel.

Der Wagen sieht mit runter geklappter Windschutzscheibe irgendwie wild aus. Meine Frisur übrigens nach der Fahrt auch.
Mit runtergeklappter Windschutzscheibe ist es ein völlig neues Fahrgefühl. Der Kopf ist voll im Fahrtwind, wie bei einem Rennwagen. Damit fühlt sich der Wagen noch viel schneller an. Wissen eigentlich Fahrer moderner klimatisierter 200PS Wagen, was sie alles verpassen?
The car looks kind of wild with the windshield down. So does my hairstyle after the ride, by the way.
With the windshield down, it's a completely new driving experience. The head is fully in the airstream, like in a race car. It makes the car feel even faster. Do drivers of modern air-conditioned 200 hp cars actually know what they are missing out on?

Ach ja, bei runtergeklappter Scheibe gibt es auch keinen Innenspiegel mehr. 
Oh yes, with the window down, there is also no longer a rear view mirror. 

236. Tag - Bäckerei / Bakery

Es freut mich, das Sonntags nicht alle Bäckereien geöffnet haben. Die Bäckerei, zu der ich zu Fuß laufen kann hat zum Beispiel geschlossen. Also darf ich Sonntags immer mit dem Model T zur Bäckerei fahren, die Sonntags geöffnet hat. Natürlich muss man da eine gute Figur machen, immerhin schläft die Konkurrenz nicht und der Mercedes SL hat schon direkt vor dem Eingang geparkt. Da ist zwar kein Parkplatz, aber da müsste man ja 10 Meter weiter laufen. Dieses mal sind die schwarzen die Guten und parken brav auf den vorgesehenen Plätzen. Das hat auch den Vorteil, dass man beim Ankurbeln nicht mit dem Kühler zum Publikum steht.

I am glad that not all bakeries are open on Sundays. The bakery that I can walk to is closed, for example. So on Sundays I'm always allowed to drive the Model T to the bakery that's open on Sundays. Of course, you have to cut a good figure there, after all, the competition doesn't sleep and the Mercedes SL is already parked right in front of the entrance. There's no parking space, but you'd have to walk 10 meters further. This time, the black ones are the good guys and park dutifully in the designated spaces. This also has the advantage that one does not stand with the radiator to the audience when cranking.

235. Tag - Der Winter geht / The winter is going

Der Winter ist vorbei, zumindest fühlt es sich so an. Es ist zwar nur 8°C warm, aber die Sonne scheint. Warum eigentlich nicht offen fahren. Im Model T macht es ja keinen Unterschied und es fühlt sich fantastisch an.

Winter is going, at least it feels like it. It is only 46°F warm, but the sun is shining. Why not drive open, actually. In the Model T it makes no difference and it feels fantastic.

Bevor es los geht, muss ich noch die Lederriemen zum Fixieren des offenen Dachs richtig einstellen. Ich habe es glaube ich nur einmal vor dem Winter genutzt. Seit dem bin ich nur noch mit geschlossenem Dach durch den Winter gefahren. Die Schnalle ist zu hoch positioniert.
Before we get started, I need to get the leather straps to fix the open roof right. I think I only used it once before winter. Since then I have only driven through the winter with the roof closed. The buckle is positioned too high.

So funktioniert es besser. Eigentlich ist der Lederriemen viel zu lang. Ich könnte ihn auch kürzen.
It works better that way. Actually, the leather strap is way too long. I could also shorten it.

Noch ein kurzer Halt an dem Papiercontainer. Hier steht ein Mercedes 123 in schönem Zustand und wird im Alltag genutzt. Dieses Model gilt als das schwäbische Auto schlechthin.
Another short stop at the paper container. Here is a Mercedes 123 in nice condition and used in everyday life. This model is considered the Swabian car par excellence.

232. Tag - Indian Motorcycles

Da musst ich einfach anhalten für ein Photo oder zwei.
Indian Motorräder sind eine weitere Legende Amerikanischen Fahrzeugbaus und es gibt sie wieder.
1901 gegründet, 1953 in Konkurs gegangen. Indians Spezialität waren Ein- und Zweizylinder Motorräder. 
1916 hat Indian die Seitenventil-Steuerung. zwischen 1916 und 1919 gab es sogar ein Achtventilmotor. Damit war Indian nicht nur sehr innovativ, sondern auch von 1913 bis 1917 der weltweit größte Motorradhersteller.
Die Leistung pro Hubraum war übrigens vergleichbar mit dem Model T. Das 1916er Einzylinder Modell hatt 4 PS bei 499ccm Hubraum.
Nach 6 erfolglosen Wiederbelebungsversuchen hat es 2011 anscheinend geklappt. Seitdem gibt es wieder Indian Motorräder und sie sind schön. Fast so schön wie der Ford vorn im Bild.

Indian Motorcycles are another legend of American vehicle manufacturing and they are back.
Founded in 1901, went bankrupt in 1953. Indian's specialty was single and twin cylinder motorcycles. 
In 1916 Indian has the side valve control. between 1916 and 1919 there was even an eight-valve engine. This made Indian not only very innovative, but also the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer from 1913 to 1917.
By the way, the power per displacement was comparable to the Model T. The 1916 single-cylinder model had 4 hp with 499cc displacement.
After 6 unsuccessful revival attempts, it apparently worked in 2011. Since then, Indian motorcycles are back and they are beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the Ford in the front of the picture.

Auf der Strecke zwischen Wohnung und Werkstatt ist der Indian Händler übrigens das Highlight.
By the way, on the route between home and workshop, the Indian dealer is the highlight.

231. Tag - Bremsentestfahrt / Brake Test Drive

Die Bearbeitung der Feststellbremse war erfolgreich. Beim Fahren ist kein Schleifen mehr zu hören. Zumindest nicht im Regen. Vielleicht noch ein ganz kleines Geräusch.
The machining of the parking brake was successful. No more grinding can be heard when driving. At least not in the rain. Maybe a very small noise.
