351. Tag - Fehlersuche 2. Tag / Troubleshooting 2nd day

Licht an der richtigen Stelle zu haben ist immer noch ein Thema in meiner Werkstatt. Vielleicht muss ich noch mal an diesem Thema arbeiten.
Having light in the right place is still an issue in my workshop. Maybe I need to work on this issue again.

Meine schöne Theorie der zwei Gänge die gleichzeitig im Eingriff sind hat sich leider nicht so richtig bestätigt. Es fehlt schlicht der entscheidende Hinweis auf einen Fehler in der Kupplungsmechanik. Darum habe ich das Thema in Facebook gepostet. Einige Gruppenmitglieder haben die Triple Gears in Verdacht. Also die drei Planetenräder, von denen man eines auf dem nächsten Bild im Hintergrund sieht. Offensichtlich kommt es öfter vor, dass die Lagerbuchsen dieser Zahnräder fressen.
My beautiful theory of two gears being engaged at the same time was unfortunately not really confirmed. There is simply no decisive indication of a fault in the clutch mechanism. That's why I posted the topic on Facebook. Some group members suspect the triple gears. That is, the three planetary gears, one of which you can see in the background of the next picture. Apparently it happens more often that the bearing bushings of these gears seize.

Wenn die Triple Gears festsitzen, ist das als würde die Kupplung geschlossen sein. Außerdem würden die Trommeln mitlaufen, was sie ja auch machen. 
Wie kann man diese Theorie beweisen? Wenn die Triple Gears in Ordnung sind, müssten sie sich in den Toleranzen des Zahnflankenspieles bewegen lassen. Vielleicht 1 bis 2mm radiale Bewegung sollten möglich sein. Ich überprüfe das und stelle fest, dass alle drei Triple Gears richtig fest sitzen. Da bewegt sich nichts. Auch mit Hammer un Schraubenzieher bewegt sich hier nichts.

When the triple gears are stuck, it's like the clutch is closed. Also, the drums would run with it, which they do. 

How can you prove this theory? If the Triple Gears are OK, they should be able to move within the tolerances of the backlash. Maybe 1 to 2mm of radial movement should be possible. I check and find that all three Triple Gears are properly tight. Nothing moves. Even with a hammer and screwdriver, nothing moves here.

Nur eines der drei Zahnräder lässt sich axial um 3mm bewegen. Aber auch dieses Zahnrad hat keine radiale Bewegung. Ich glaube damit ist die zweite Theorie hinreichend belegt.
Only one of the three gears can be moved axially by 3mm. But also this gear wheel has no radial movement. I believe that this sufficiently proves the second theory.

Jetzt muss ich nur noch die hohe mentale Barriere überwinden und mich damit abfinden, dass ich den Motor ausbauen muss. Am besten denke ich gar nicht lange darüber nach.

Ich lasse das Öl ab und finde eine Menge Metallpartikel in den Ölablassschrauben.
Now I just have to overcome the high mental barrier and come to terms with the fact that I have to remove the engine. It's best that I don't even think about it for long.

I drain the oil and find a lot of metal particles in the oil drain plugs.

Jetzt baue ich den Kühler ab. Aber zuerst muss das Wasser raus. hierbei mache ich eine interessante Erfahrung: Der Motorausbau dauert kaum länger als das Wasser aus dem Kühler rauslaufen zu lassen.

Während das Wasser unten am Kühler herausläuft habe ich alle elektrischen Leitungen entfernt, den Kardan und die Motorlager abgeschraubt, die Motorhaube entfernt, den Kühler selbst abgeschraubt, die Benzinleitung am Vergaser abgeschraubt und den Auspuff demontiert.
Now I'm going to dismantle the radiator. But first the water has to come out. Here I make an interesting experience: The engine removal takes hardly longer than letting the water run out of the radiator.

While the water is running out at the bottom of the radiator, I have removed all the electrical wires, unscrewed the gimbal and the engine mounts, removed the hood, unscrewed the radiator itself, unscrewed the fuel line at the carburetor, and disassembled the exhaust.

Jetzt kommt endlich nochmal mein schöner 50er Gabelschlüssel zum Einsatz.
Now, finally, my nice 50 open-end wrench comes into use again.

Leider hatte ich den Kettenzug nicht in der Garage, sonst hätte ich den Motor noch herausgehoben. Das hat jetzt keine Stunde gedauert.
Unfortunately, I did not have the chain hoist in the garage, otherwise I would have lifted the engine out. This has now taken less than an hour.

348. Tag - Eifelrundfahrt 1922

11:45 Auf einer langen Bergstrecke blockiert der Antrieb nach 20km Fahrt. Das gleiche Problem wie gestern.

Wir werden erst mal die Anlasserkurbel und das Getriebe prüfen. Die Kurbel lässt sich nur noch wenige Zentimeter bewegen. Das Getriebe ist verdammt heiß gelaufen und dampft. Alle drei Bänder sind frei. Offensichtlich öffnet die Kupplung nicht mehr.
We will first check the starter crank and the transmission. The crank can only be moved a few centimeters. The transmission has run damn hot and is steaming. All three bands are free. Obviously, the clutch no longer opens.

Wenige Minuten später kommt das A-Team, ich meine das Ford Model-A Team und hält um zu helfen. Auch ein Motorradpolizist kommt zufällig vorbei. Er ist ein super netter und entspannter Mann und hilft uns die Stelle abzusperren. Wir beraten was der nächste Schritt ist. Es wäre super, wenn man den Wagen drehen könnte, ihn den Berg runter rollen läßt und so wie gestern wieder die Kupplung frei bekommt. Wir können aber nicht abschätze, ob wir den Wagen am Berg mit geschlossener Kupplung gedreht bekommen. Darum beschließen wir das ganze rückwärts zu versuchen. Mit zwei Mann schieben wir den Wagen den Berg runter, während die anderen den Verkehr anhalten. Leider funktioniert es nicht und entsprechend unserem Plan werden wir den Trailer holen. Wir warten auf das Service Team des Veranstalters und ich habe jetzt alle Zeit den Blog für Euch zu schreiben. Nach 348 Tage mit dem Model T fängt man an die Dinge mit viel Gelassenheit zu betrachten.
A few minutes later the A-Team, I mean the Ford Model-A Team, comes and stops to help. A motorcycle policeman also happens to come by. He is a super nice and relaxed man and helps us close off the spot. We discuss what the next step is. It would be great to be able to turn the car, let it roll down the hill and get the clutch free again like yesterday. But we can't estimate if we can turn the car on the hill with the clutch closed. Therefore we decide to try the whole thing backwards. With two men we push the car down the hill while the others stop the traffic. Unfortunately it doesn't work and according to our plan we will get the trailer. We wait for the service team of the organizer and I now have all the time to write the blog for you. After 348 days with the Model T, you start to look at things with a lot of composure.

Kurz danach kommen noch 3 Johanniter Motorradfahrer, die auch Hilfe anbieten.

Da wir jetzt genügend Zeit haben fette ich mal den Kardan. Vielleicht besänftigt das ja die Seele meines Autos. Now that we have enough time, I'll grease the cardan. Maybe that soothes the soul of my car.

Hier sieht man übrigens die beiden Riefen in der Bremstrommel, von denen ich gestern gesprochen habe.

13:00 Die Veranstalter haben Markus, meinen Beifahrer abgeholt, damit er mit dem Trailer zurückkommen kann. Ich habe also genügend Zeit die idyllische, aber viel befahrene Bergstraße in der Eifel zu genießen.
